Resettlement Package for Vulnerable British Nationals in Zimbabwe (03/07/2009)
Resettlement Package for Vulnerable British Nationals in Zimbabwe
The British Government is offering a resettlement package to vulnerable British Nationals in Zimbabwe.
Like other Western nations, the British Government is keen to give the power-sharing accord every chance of success. But Zimbabwe is experiencing severe economic, social and health care problems. These are unlikely to improve significantly in the short term, and are having a severe impact on elderly and vulnerable British Nationals who live here.
The British Government is therefore offering British Nationals aged 70 and over assistance to leave the country, and help in resettlement in the United Kingdom. The scheme will also cover those below this age who may be vulnerable due to health and social care needs, which mean that they are not able to look after themselves.
The British Embassy in Harare is contacting Nationals who have expressed an interest in moving to the UK, to let them know what help we can give, and whether they are eligible for resettlement.
The offer to resettle vulnerable British Nationals is being made alongside the British Government's continuing provision of humanitarian aid to Zimbabwe. For British Nationals who remain in Zimbabwe, the British Embassy will continue to provide a full range of consular services and will keep FCO Travel advice under constant review.
